Best Markets in Mallorca: What to Buy and Where to Find Local Crafts & Food

Local crafts, traditional food and an authentic atmosphere. Discover five of Mallorca's best markets and what to look for in each one.

Mercadillos fruta Mallorca

Markets are at the heart of daily life in many towns across Mallorca. They are places to shop, but also places to meet, chat with neighbours and strengthen community ties. Or, as we say here, fer poble, a Mallorcan expression that roughly translates as "building community".

Exploring a market is one of the best ways to connect with the island's traditions: discovering local products, meeting artisans, trying something new and experiencing Mallorcan gastronomy through its flavours and seasonal ingredients.

Each market has its own character and specialties. Some are known for fresh produce and seasonal foods, while others stand out for their handicrafts, textiles or ceramics. Here are some of our favourites and what makes each one worth visiting.

Sineu Market: Local Produce and Tradition

Held every Wednesday, Sineu Market brings together food stalls, local crafts and products from across the island. It also features a traditional livestock area with native animals such as sheep, dogs and poultry.

What to buy: Sobrasada, local cheeses, cured meats, seasonal fruit and vegetables, along with locally made products. The handicraft stalls are also worth exploring for items made using traditional materials and techniques.

Pollença Market: Crafts and Village Charm

Every Sunday, Plaça Major and the surrounding streets fill with stalls and local life. It is the perfect market for a leisurely stroll while browsing local products.

What to buy: Ceramics, textiles, handmade items and traditional Mallorcan food products. An excellent place to find a unique souvenir from the island.

Santanyí Market: Crafts, Fashion and Local Products

On Wednesdays and Saturdays, the centre of Santanyí transforms into a large open-air market. It is one of the island's most popular markets and attracts visitors from around the world.

What to buy: Ceramics, textiles, accessories, handcrafted items and gourmet products from Mallorca and elsewhere in Europe.

Artà Market: Authentic Mallorcan Craftsmanship

Every Tuesday, Artà Market spreads throughout much of the town's historic centre. Alongside food vendors, it is one of the best places to discover local artisans and island-made products.

What to buy: Basketry, ceramics, textiles, leather goods and other handmade crafts. If you're looking for something genuinely made in Mallorca, this is a great place to spend time.

Alcúdia Market: A Walk Through History

Held on Tuesdays and Sundays, Alcúdia's historic centre hosts one of the most famous markets in northern Mallorca. Walking through its stalls is also an opportunity to explore the charming streets of the old town.

What to buy: Local food products, handicrafts, ceramics, textiles and small souvenirs. You'll also find fresh fruit and vegetables that might inspire you to recreate a traditional Mallorcan recipe at home.

What Should You Bring Home from a Market in Mallorca?

If you'd like to take a piece of the island home with you, keep an eye out for some of Mallorca's most iconic products: sobrasada, local cheeses, flor de sal sea salt, olive oil, ceramics, llata basketry and olive wood crafts.

Rather than searching for the perfect souvenir, focus on what is genuinely made here. That is one of the greatest things about Mallorca's markets: among the stalls, conversations and local products, you take home a little of the island itself.
